Super-Resolution Microscopy

We are developing a new microscopy technique to determine structure in living cells on the 1-10 nm length scale, around the size of individual transmembrane proteins. In order to beat the diffraction limit of conventional optical microscopy, we will create a novel super-resolution Raman microscopy technique. This will be the world’s first imaging technique that is capable of following live cells on the nanometer length scale without the need for fluorescent labels. We will then be able to follow how membrane structure changes with time, and how different membrane environments affect protein reaction dynamics.
